Topeka, Kan., couple to fund fellowship in chemistry
Jerry and Judy Reed, Topeka, Kan., have made a commitment of $50,000 to the College of Arts and Sciences at Kansas State University to establish the Reed Fellowship in Chemistry.
The fellowship will provide financial assistance to graduate students enrolled in the Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences at K-State. It was established with a pledge of $50,000 over five years. Matching funds from Jerry Reed’s former employer, ConocoPhillips, in the amount of $25,000 will bring the total amount of the fund to $75,000.
The Reeds also fund an additional scholarship in chemistry that they established in 1997. The Jerry and Judy Reed Chemistry Scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate students in the Department of Chemistry at K-State.
Jerry and Judy graduated from McPherson High School in 1959 and 1962, respectively, and lived in Bartlesville, Kan., for 22 years. Jerry Reed is a 1963 graduate of K-State with a bachelor’s degree from the College of Arts and Sciences in chemistry. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in chemistry from Yale University in 1964 and 1968.
The Reeds are members of Presidents Club, a KSU Foundation philanthropic leadership organization for friends and alumni of K-State.
Philanthropic contributions to K-State are coordinated by the Kansas State University Foundation. The foundation manages fundraising efforts with alumni, friends, corporations and foundations to secure private support for the university.
