Mother and son establish cancer research fund

Patricia (Patty) Wheeler, Caney, Kan. and her son Vince Wheeler, Wichita, Kan. have made a gift to the College of Arts and Sciences at Kansas State University to establish the Mahlon Wheeler Cancer Research Fund.

John Hofmeister, along with Shell Oil Company, gives $410,000 to K-State

Shell Oil Company, Houston, has made a gift of $210,000 to the College of Arts and Sciences at Kansas State University to provide additional funding for the Michael W. Suleiman Chair in Arab and Arab-American Studies, a fund originally established by Shell’s president, John Hofmeister. The gift qualifies the chair for inclusion in the Kansas Faculty of Distinction Program, which provides for supplemental funding from the state of Kansas.

K-State to break ground on World War II Memorial

The public is invited to attend a ceremonial groundbreaking for the World War II Memorial at Kansas State University Saturday, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the intersection of Mid-Campus Drive and Vattier Street.

IRA Charitable Rollover extension signed into law

Congress approved and President George W. Bush signed into law last Friday the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. The act includes a two-year extension of the Individual Retirement Account (IRA) Charitable Rollover.

Minnesota couple supports ROTC at K-State with $1.5 million gift

A dedication ceremony for a building in the Jardine Complex to house Kansas State University ROTC students will take place Saturday, Oct. 4 at 11:30 a.m. The new Saunders Barracks is a result of a generous gift to K-State from COL. H. Duane and Bonnie Saunders, Eden Prairie, Minn.

The Saunderses’ contribution of $1.5 million to K-State will benefit the Department of Military Science, the Reserve Officer Training Corps, university scholarships and the Department of Housing and Dining.
