Warren and Mary Lynn StaleyChanging lives through: contributing the lead gift for the Center for Leadership Studies at K-State.
The need: “Since its inception eight years ago, the enrollment in the leadership studies minor has been phenomenal,” said Susan Scott, Leadership Studies and Programs director. “We have literally run out of space to house the fastest-growing academic program on campus.”
Why they gave: “By initiating the building project with our lead gift we’re able to say thank you, and we hope that we will be joined by others who have the same vision,” Mary Lynn said. “But most of all, we hope it enriches the lives of K-State students. The program is growing dramatically and looking for support now. We hope that by making our gift, we will motivate other people to jump onboard and get behind the initiative for a truly outstanding program.”
K-State connection: The Staleys are no strangers to leadership development at K-State. Mary Lynn was involved in Chimes, student government and her sorority while earning her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Warren, who graduated from K-State in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, served as president of both his fraternity and the Interfraternity Council, and was a member of Blue Key. He now serves as the chairman and CEO of Cargill Inc.
Why it matters: “Students want to make a difference and bring about positive change in the workplace and with their families and communities,” Scott said. “This building reflects that kind of commitment students have to service and the greater good.”
