Lucile Hawks Making a difference by: supporting K-State with a charitable gift that benefited K-State and Lucile through a life-income arrangement.
K-State connection: Lucile attended K-State shortly after the Great Depression, graduating in 1939. She remembers, “There was little time for fun — it was just work and study.”
Why she gave: Lucile worked for 39 years teaching home economics throughout the state of Kansas. Lucile said she believes that education is vitally important for careers and for an enriched life. That’s why she would eventually decide to combine her interest in education and her fondness of K-State by making a charitable gift to the university.
She chose to make her gifts through charitable gift annuities (CGA) — a giving vehicle that allows you to transfer assets to K-State while also receiving a fixed income for life.
“Establishing charitable gift annuities has allowed me to make more gifts to various places,” Lucile said. “And right now in this economy it’s going to be a lifesaver. It’s really been a wise investment.”
Why it matters: Lucile established two CGAs: one to support the Department of Apparel, Textiles and Interior Design in K-State’s College of Human Ecology and one, more recently, to support the Justin Hall building renovation.
