Sam and Martha Logan

Changing Lives by supporting faculty at K-State. Sam and Martha Logans stipulated in their will that upon their death, a portion of their estate be placed in a charitable trust. This trust will help support faculty at K-State, while paying a percentage of the proceeds to the Logans’ two sons.

K-State connection: Sam is a 1956 graduate of K-State with a degree in journalism and mass communications. He earned his master’s degree from K-State in agricultural economics in 1959. Sam once said he wished he could win the lottery, just so he could give more back to K-State. But Sam and Martha, have already made several contributions to the university including a bequest to establish faculty chairs in journalism and electrical and computer engineering.

Why they gave: “My strings to K-State have always been pretty strong. I always thought the faculty was really outstanding and my wife and I felt this was a great way to honor them,” Sam said.

Why it matters: “The bequest took care of our estate planning and took care of supporting our two sons once we were gone,” Sam said. “And by supporting higher education at K-State, we can help a person become all that they are capable of being. Higher education makes a person more complete. It expands their horizons, makes them think differently.”
