Changing lives by: Offering students a corporate-sponsored scholarship, which in turn offers encouragement to become involved in campus and community activities. Kansas Gas Service, a divison of ONEOK, established a scholarship program to recognize campus and community leadership as important components of students’ academic preparation and success in their future careers.

K-State connection: Recognizing that the cost of education is at an all-time high for Kansas families, Kansas Gas Service decided to award scholarship support for students at K-State.

Impact: More than 400 K-State students, from all 105 counties in Kansas, have benefited from the Kansas Gas Service Leadership Scholarship. Kansas Gas Service established the scholarship program during K-State’s Changing Lives Campaign to reward outstanding leaders with a commitment to academic excellence, leadership and service to campus, community and the world.

“We believe our scholarship program at K-State is a great way to help students understand and develop their leadership skills,” said Brad Dixon, president of Kansas Gas Service. “Leadership is an important commodity in the community, industry and life in general — you're a leader no matter where you are or what you're doing. We're glad this program will have some small role in helping students achieve their goals.”

What people are saying: Scholarship recipient Ann Virgo said her Kansas Gas scholarship is important to her college experience.

“The Kansas Gas Leadership Scholarship granted me the confidence and support that helped me gain leadership positions and active involvement in organizations,” she said. “It allowed me to utilize my time in pursuing my goals to give back to my university and my community through service and dedication.”
