Making a difference by: partnering with Kansas State University to sponsor the Embarq Corporation Scholars program, which awards scholarships to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Engineering or K-State at Salina. The nationwide telecommunications company rewards students who maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and are permanent residents in a community served by Embarq.

 

Why they gave: “Embarq is proud to offer this scholarship to K-State students,” said Doug Galloway, Embarq’s state executive for Kansas. “Community involvement and education are tenets of our company’s values. We are committed to improving the quality of life for Kansans and the local communities we serve. Communities and businesses benefit from a highly educated workforce. ”

 

Impact: “I appreciate the recognition from Embarq Corporation,” said Jaime Borntrager, Haven, Kan., the first Embarq Scholar. “I am thrilled that Embarq has taken the steps to establish this endowment; it will help me greatly by helping to fund my books and tuition.  This scholarship is an investment in my and other students’ futures.”
