TITLE: Gift Planning Officer

SUPERVISOR: Senior Director of Gift Planning

DESCRIPTION: Full-time exempt professional fund raising position responsible for the identification and cultivation of planned gift prospects and solicitation of planned and major gifts. Markets tax deferred giving methods using comprehensive estate and financial planning. Coordinates with and assists other Foundation staff members, KSU faculty and staff and volunteers in the development of planned gifts. Travel required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the mission of the KSU Foundation as it relates to the educational, research and service goals of the University with the ability to communicate the institution’s needs and priorities – both internally and externally.

2. Establish and nurture effective, collegial working relationships with foundation coworkers, university partners, and donors.

3. Promote and demonstrates respect, collaboration, and friendly customer service in all working relationships.

4. Assist in implementing the Gift Planning program, including but not limited to estate planning, bequest, life insurance, unitrusts, gift annuities, life income trusts, and charitable remainder trusts.

5. Proactively develop prospects having an interest in and potential for planned gifts and to follow up on contacts developed by mail and by others.

6. Service existing donors by maintaining strong relationships on regular basis.

7. Assist in preparation of Gift Planning publications.

8. Makes effective use of the University’s prospect management database and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers in coordination with University objectives and Foundation’s strategic planning.

9. Work with all professional staff in the interfacing of Gift Planning and ongoing fund raising programs.

10. Arrange for ongoing continuing education in the areas of Gift Planning and estate planning.

11. Assist in the administration of trust agreements.

12. Correspond with alumni, friends and donors.

13. Develop an understanding of the KSU Foundation's programs, policies and objectives.

14. Participate in Foundation activities (i.e. annual meetings of the Board of Trustees, campaign events, Presidents Club activities, etc.)

15. Other work related duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelors degree required.

Experience: Estate planning, tax accounting or legal background helpful. Must have working knowledge of Gift Planning vehicles (i.e. estate planning, life insurance, unitrusts, etc.). Confidentiality important.

Skills: Superior oral and written skills; analytical and presentation skills; and organizational and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Foundation personnel and the various public. Ability to independently initiate, organize and follow through with multiple program plans. Organizational ability to participate in and coordinate a wide variety of fund-raising activities. Professional appearance, initiative and integrity required.

Requirements: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Travel required.
